Dylan Bush cut his teeth as a news and political journalist at the Mail & Guardian from 2010 – 2015, where he covered major national news events like the Marikana Massacre, Nkandla, national elections and many service delivery protests. During his time at the M&G, Dylan exhibited his photography in South Africa and Europe and won two Standard Bank Sikuvile awards and the CNN African Digital Journalist of the Year award.

Dylan has also worked for Sonke Gender Justice and the African Alliance, where he pursued his passion for social justice. There, he was able to focus on issues such as gender-based violence, the Silicosis case, and he directed, shot and edited a documentary on inmates’ health at South Africa’s notorious Pollsmoor Prison in the Western Cape, for which he won a Discovery Health Journalism Award.

Dylan spent 7.5 years at the Bhekisisa Centre for Health Journalism, where he honed his health and social justice reporting skills covering topics like the decriminalisation of sex work, harm reduction for injecting drug users, HIV and COVID-19.
