Onke Ngcuka

Onke Ngcuka is a fellow with AmaBhungane where she is taking on a special focus on climate and environmental investigations. Ngcuka was previously a climate and environmental reporter with the Daily Maverick’s Our Burning Planet unit, covering a range of local and international news. Ngcuka obtained her journalism and media studies honours degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. After graduating, she completed an internship at Reuters News in Johannesburg. The journalist has also worked with organisations such as the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and the United Nations Environment Programmes where she partook in environmental fellowships. She is the winner of the 2022 Standard Bank Sikuvile ‘Upcoming Journalist of the Year’ Award and has had her work recognised by the Vodacom Journalism Awards. The journalist has a particular interest in global policy and climate/environmental justice.
